The fifth edition of Axial Shifts, ENSURED’s biannual newsletter, features 11 new research reports spanning ENSURED’s core policy areas and cross-cutting themes, alongside selected action-oriented policy briefs and expert blogs. Plus: an event update, our IO speed-dating, and a historical note marking 80 years since the UN’s first General Assembly.

International cooperation is changing. As geopolitical frictions mount across policy areas ranging from trade to climate and health, ENSURED examines how the EU can help defend multilateralism and make global governance more robust, effective, and democratic. Axial Shifts curates key ideas and updates from across the project for policymakers, scholars, and engaged citizens.

What’s inside this issue:

  • A whopping 11 new ENSURED reports: Our picks include work on the complexity of global governance, reforming global institutions, the global governance of sex and gender, reforming global tax governance, and the ENSURED expert survey, which explores how 110 international organisations are navigating today’s turbulent environment.
  • Policy briefs: On the EU’s strategic choices in a ruptured global governance landscape and strategies for the EU in relation to WTO reform.
  • Blog highlights: On rethinking the far right and climate governance, the future of the Youth, Peace and Security (YPS) agenda, and more.
  • Events, events, events: From Prague to Beijing, ENSURED has convened multiple dissemination events, dialogues, and workshops, including a new webinar series, “In Conversation with Civil Society.”
  • IO Speed Dating: Meet the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)!
  • In global governance history: The first debate of the United Nations General Assembly — and what has changed since then.
