On 8-9 September 2025, the University of Potsdam organised an author workshop on “The Transformation of Global Governance in a Contested World” as part of the ENSURED project. The event brought together 14 scholars to discuss their case study findings regarding ENSURED’s core themes of democracy, effectiveness, and robustness of global institutions and the multilateral order. This marked a key transition for the project, moving from the completion of major research deliverables towards the dissemination phase.
Over the two days, the authors discussed a total of eleven papers. The workshop began with a kick-off session led by ENSURED project coordinator Hylke Dijkstra, who presented the objectives of future publications with a peer-reviewed journal. The papers were grouped into thematic sessions based on ENSURED’s content areas: trade and taxation, climate and biodiversity, global health, migration and human rights, and digitalisation. Each paper received30 minutes of intensive feedback on its theoretical contributions, empirical strategies, policy relevance, and links to the overall framework of ENSURED. The workshop closed with a substantive and procedural discussion in which participants reflected on cross-cutting implications and strategised about how best to frame and present the set of papers to maximise coherence and impact. Beyond academic discussion, the workshop also fostered networking and collaboration among early-career and senior researchers.
Overall, the author workshop successfully advanced the coordination of future publications, strengthened cooperation among researchers, and showcased ENSURED’s role in promoting rigorous, policy-relevant scholarship on global governance challenges.
